H416: Learning Chinese Characters

This class will demonstrate the history of Chinese character writing. We will explore how traditional Chinese characters have evolved into “simplified” characters. We will practice various stroke methods as well as learning the 4 main tones and explore the variety of Chinese characters and words that the language has to offer.
H419: Becoming Your Own Teacher

Participants can explore and tap into their inner teacher. Throughout the workshop, students will be guided in creating their teacher persona by designing their teacher look and meeting fellow teachers in their subject field. In addition to these activities, students will engage in a game of "What would you do," where they will be presented with scenarios and work with their teams to discuss how they would handle specific situations as teachers. This workshop offers a unique and engaging approach to understanding the teaching profession by allowing students to create their own vision of themselves as teachers. We hope participants will leave the workshop feeling inspired and empowered with a newfound understanding that there is a teacher in all of us. Thank you for considering joining us for coming
H420: Introduction to Roman Religion

This class will offer students a very general overview of Ancient Roman religion. Roman religion was very varied and wacky, and included gods from other cultures including the famous Greek gods and gods from Egypt, Persia, and the Middle East, as well as their own unique traditions and secretive mystery cults. We will talk about books like Percy Jackson and watch clips from movies like Hercules and Clash of the Titans in addition to reading excerpts from primary sources.

In “What Motivates You? – The Psychology of Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation”, we will be exploring the power of motivation in our daily lives, not only to determine our day-to-day behaviors, but also to build us toward our futures. To understand motivation's widespread influence, we will engage in a number of activities to think critically about motivation’s role in our individual lives and the world around us. Two important questions we will consider are “What causes behavior?” and “Why does behavior vary in its intensity?”.
