S230: "Survival of the Sickest" in Splash Spring 2019 (Feb. 02, 2019)
Have you ever wondered why some diseases are still around to this day despite the fact that they are disadvantageous to our health and survival? This seems contradictory to the idea of survival of the fittest. In this course I will explain the reason for this phenomena based on what I have learned from the book "Survival of the Sickest" by Dr. Sharon Moalem

S190: Understanding Food Labels and What they Mean to You in Splash Fall 2017 (Nov. 11, 2017)
In our modern era and with our busy schedules we all tend to rely more and more on store bought products whether it be cereals, snacks, or ready meals. As our consumption of packaged goods increases, it's important to educate ourselves as what they contain. Food labels reveal a lot of useful information, but they are not always easy to understand and we tend to ignore them. So the main focus of this course will be on how to understand and interpret food labels (for example things like serving size, % daily value etc..). At the end of the course we will also talk about some important dietary guidelines set by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Hopefully by the end of the course we will all be more educated of what we put into our bodies and why we should care.
